LESSONS IN PATRIOTISM
ARE YOU PATRIOTIC or a mere flag snagger? (Sh……!)
● Loving one’s country means ensuring all its people can thrive! It’s not about just celebrating flags or ceremonies and going Ra! Ra! I love my country but I’m afraid the pie isn’t big enough for all people living in it.
● We’ve been fed this nonsense (get it!)
● There is plenty to go around but the fat controllers are STUFFING the hugest portions into their mucky little pockets (read…tax havens etc). Greedy, exploiting little liars!
● True patriotism requires fighting poverty, racism, and inequality at home. And fighting alongside each other. United.
● in order to do this we need to identify the solutions rather than resorting to the false solutions of fearfully hating and scapegoating….scapeboating no less!
● We are in an economic crisis. A COST OF LIVING CRISIS. AND WE WILL NOT PAY FOR THIS CRISIS.
● The solution isn’t to blame migrants but to fight for decent conditions of living FOR ALL who live here:- fair wages, workers’ rights, decent housing, a well funded NHS ans healthcare, and education, youth service, disability services, LGBTQ services. elderly services, our libraries, our swimming pools and more besides…add your favourite here 👇
● These are patriotic goals, because they ensure a country TAKES CARE OF ALL ITS CITIZENS , with all their wonderful differences.
● Migrants did not cause the economic crisis. And this race to the bottom rhetoric “we are only against ‘illegals’ ” is absolute nonsense. No one is illegal. Everyone has a right to pass through any country to arrive at a destination to claim asylum. THEMS THE RULES!
● It is deliberately whipped up fear and hatred that serves to divert attention away from the real sources of the cost of living crisis. Who? What? Where?
● The world’s richist elites are backing this “politics of distraction”. Why? Because this fear and hatred takes the heat off of them. Don’t be fooled. So let’s be clear
● OUR NATION IS STRONGEST when it embraces different races, religions, genders, and cultures.
● Diversity ISN’T a THREAT. It is something to CELEBRATE AND BE PROUD OF. Diversity is the very essence of our country’s story.
● Our hearts can swell larger than ourselves with patriotism…..that is:-
● A patriot is someone who pushes their country to live up to its ideals of liberty, equality, democracy and freedom.
● Being patriotic means standing with marginalised communities, and those who have been historically excluded.
● And taking an active national pride in our country’s social justice movements e.g. Stand Up To Racism…..Image that eh!
● And patriotism extends beyond people to the planet. It embraces how people can live in peace on our SHARED EARTH.
● SO DITCH THE CLIMATE DENIAL if you want to be patriotic!
● AND don’t forget your Global Responsibility as a Patriotic person 👇
● A great nation’s values extend beyond its borders. Caring for the planet, promoting peace, and supporting human rights worldwide is patriotic.
● SO finally, patriotism ought to embrass progress and NOT be backwards looking in a nostalgic fools paradise. A nation should not cling to nostalgia but strive toward a more truly equitably future.
● And so much largerbthan itself, as part of the international family, patriotism should shrive towards a truly equitable Global Community.
