So, Josh Babarinde MP. Where do you stand now?
Last week you absolutely rightly stated there is no place for hate on our Eastbourne streets or in our communities or ANYWHERE in our society. You said “we must take a stand against those who preach or incite hatred”.
So, we are asking you now, will you be making a stand on whether you agree or NOT with Ed Davey’s opinion that the decision for the race hating Maccabi Tel Aviv rioters to be banned from the Birmingham’s Aston Villa football match must be “reversed” “as soon as possible”.
Note. The decision to ban the race hating rioters was based on the West Midlands Police risk assessment categorising the event as “high-risk” – having taken into account both intelligence and recent incidents, including “violent clashes” during the 2024 UEFA Europa League match in Amsterdam.
We have all seen the horrendous footage of the rioting Maccabi Tel Aviv fans shouting “death to Arabs” and depraved chants “we will rape your girls”; the tearing down of Palestinian flags from private property; the vandalising a taxi trying to force the windows and doors open – while the driver was inside and more. And much more.
Five people needed hospital treatment released, while 20 to 30 others sustained minor injuries.
So come on Josh Babarinde MP, as the Lib Dem Justice Spokesperson, surely you are going to take a stand against Ed Davey’s opinion? Or are you saying that whereas it’s WRONG for Eastbourne to be subject to race hate and incitement, it IS perfectly OK for Aston Villa football fans to be exposed to this?
Is the trademark Lib Dem flim-flam-fence-sitting becoming painful over this one? Are you happy for this exposed and raw double standard to go by unaddressed? What kind of justice do you stand for? Is it the Israeli State pleasing sentiment that Tel Aviv fans require emergency government exemption from the ban, or is it the justice you spoke about last week?
